In Europe and I believe they're making fun of England, they have tales of gnomes and fairies. While in North America, our cryptid/mythological creatures are generally all sinister and will kill you dead. Like the pictured Wendigo.

To be fair Fairies and most Fairytail things were super dark a lot of the time until you Americans (ergo Disney) came along and put tons of sugar on it!
