Well, I am a Brit. We ruled most of the world at one point and lost pretty much all of it, so can't be too offended by history when that's your Kingdom's legacy
I love reading up on history, particularly WWI and WWII and all of the lesser known stories that came from it (like the Russian Night Witches, an all-female regiment who would fly in under cover of night, shut their engines off to cover their approach and bomb the Germans. The Germans likened the sound of shreiking metal of the planes to witches, hence the nickname. Or the Smoking Snakes, three Brazillian soldiers who got separated from their unit and, rather than surrendering when the Germans surrounded them, fought bravely to their deaths. The Germans buried them as heroes (they included a gravemarker that said Drai Brasilianische Helden [Three Brazilian Heroes]), the only known instances of this happening. Or Witold Pilecki, a Polish soldier who got himself imprisioned in Auschwitz on purpose so he could report the conditions back to Polish government...except that while he was in Auschwitz the government was overthrown and forced into exile, and when he escaped the government that replaced them found him to be a traitor and executed him. His story was buried until after the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the fall of communism, allowing his report to be told and he was posthumously cleared of treason and given a heroes honour. Or Leslie Allen, an Australian soldier implanted into a US combat unit who risked his life 11 times to save US troops injured in combat, receiving the US Silver Star. So many other awesome stories from both sides of the war that I love to read about). I also love reading up on more obscure things like Swedish history and the story of Carolus Rex, or the more obscure details of Napoleon's advancements, and so on. History is awesome.
