Dragon Ball Z has some pretty heavy and emotional moments throughout the series. Some of them more so than others. When looking for the most emotional parts, these 5 moments tend to be on most fan lists. Here are the most emotional moments in Dragon Ball Z!

5.) Vegeta's Plea
When Vegeta is facing death, he opens up for the first time and is brought to tears when speaking with Goku. He tells Goku how the Saiyans were meant to do everything Frieza asked and he was taken from his father as a small child. If he disobeyed Frieza, he’d kill his father. It turns out, he killed him anyways along with all of the other Saiyans even though he did what he asked of him. With his last breath, he pleads with Goku to stop Frieza, no matter what it takes.

4.) Gohan’s Savior
In a rage, Nappa loses it and turns to Gohan to end his life. Piccolo knows there is no time to waste. A flashback of their time spent together is shown as Piccolo jumps in front of Gohan. After the blast from Nappa, the smoke clears to show a very wounded Piccolo who collapses seconds later. He tells Gohan he isn’t going to make it and it is up to him to stop Nappa and Vegeta. Gohan tells him to hold on a little longer and his dad will save them.

3.) Krillin's Death
Goku wants everyone to leave but before Krillin gets the chance, Frieza holds him in place and raises him to the sky. He tells him that this time he won’t come back after exploding his body right in front of Goku and Gohan. A rush of anger overcomes Goku after seeing his best friend murdered. The energy around him increases and lightning strikes all around him. Gohan looks on in fear as he doesn’t understand what is happening. With a loud scream, Goku’s eyes go white and his energy becomes bright yellow. His hair changing to golden yellow and his eyes intense blue. He has reached Super Saiyan for the first time. He turns to Gohan and demands he leaves the area at once.

2.) Vegeta's Heart
After an intense fight with Majin Buu, Vegeta knows there is only one thing that could stop him. Trunks and Goten plead with Vegeta that they can fight alongside him and win but he has already made up his mind. Vegeta hugs Trunks and tells him he has made him proud just before knocking him unconscious. He knocks out Goten as well. Piccolo knows what he has planned and brings Trunks and Goten to a safe distance with Krillin. Vegeta decides to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect his son, his wife, and even his friend Goku. He powers up and implodes his own body like a bomb.

1.) Gohan’s Victory
Gohan is convinced he doesn’t have the strength to finish of Cell on his own when Goku chimes in from the Other World. Goku tells him to keep fighting as Gohan blames himself for Goku’s death. Goku then tells Gohan to blame Cell and to make him pay for everything he has done. He powers up and Cell gets excited as the two blast energy waves at each other. With one broken arm, Gohan struggles and feels as if he can’t keep going. Goku tells him to let out all he has. As his energy increases, a weakened Vegeta approaches from behind Cell to distract him. Goku screams at Gohan that now is his chance. Gohan harnesses all of the energy and begins to walk toward Cell as he becomes overwhelmed and ultimately dies at Gohan’s hand.
