I don't follow sports much less Olympic athletes but saw her name trending on X and saw the story. This is so sad.

Ugandan Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei has died after she was severely burned by her partner over an alleged land dispute.

The marathon runner, 33, was taken to hospital in Kenya after she was doused in petrol by her boyfriend on Sunday, police said.

The Ugandan Athletics Federation posted on X: "We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our athlete, Rebecca Cheptegei early this morning who tragically fell victim to domestic violence.

"As a federation, we condemn such acts and call for justice. May her soul rest In Peace."

Donald Rukare, Uganda's Olympic Committee chief, added: "May her gentle soul rest in peace and we strongly condemn violence against women.

"This was a cowardly and senseless act that has led to the loss of a great athlete. Her legacy will continue to endure."

This is very sad. Burning is an awful way to die. I don’t understand why murderers usually don’t think of the consequences before they kill people either.

Most don't care about consequences. They care about their emotions being relieved in the moment. It is low IQ behavior. The more emotional and quick to anger you are, trends show the lower IQ you have both intellectually and emotionally.

The ones that are smart... They know about the consequences and they believe what they are doing is justified regardless of what will come from it. A lot of serial killers believe they are going "good" in their actions even.
