Dragon Ball Z Piccolo As Goku's Rival

I'm wondering how he would even get stronger tbh. I was thinking those yellowish' muscles..? skin patches..? Uh, the things on his arms that used to be pink! ~ suggest he's getting a new transformation. But I just read somewhere that it actually just indicates he's getting older. Unfortunately, I don't think he will get a power up in this movie.. I'm cool with him just staying as a mentor type character to Pan though.

He should be playing a bigger role in the new movie so we shall see.

Piccolo stopped feeling like a rival to me after he became Gohan's dad in the Saiyan Saga. Seemed like he stopped caring about competing with Goku after that and was just a cool ally, as Vegeta immediately filled the rival role. Regardless, I love Goku & Piccolo's relationship. I always loved the moment where Goku first sees Piccolo after he fuses with Kami, and Goku greets him by calling him Kamiccolo!

I think Piccolo is more like Gohans Mentor/uncle!

I just wish they would actually use him again rather than a babysitter for the Saiyans.

I agree, he should get more action - but not as a powerhouse, like somehow he's able to match Ultra Instinct.. I'd be happy if he could get a "Jiraiya" moment and sacrifice himself for a greater good, like Pan's first transformation to super saiyan!

Yes and no - I don't want him to instantly become Ultra Instinct level, but not also exist just to be the trigger for someone to unlock their transformation (especially if it somehow makes Pan even stronger than he is). Like some sort of halfway where he gets more useful, maybe Super Namek God (or something less contrived).

Like how he was up until the Buu Saga - able to keep up with the blondies, and sometimes even surpassing, even if he eventually had to take a backseat to a Saiyan.

Piccolo stopped being Goku's rival after android 17 fight tbf. During the fight he was the strongest Z fighters. It's just that Goku has saiyan DNA so he and other saiyans surpassed Piccolo when they trained in Hyperbolic Time Chamber. And once that happens not amount of training Piccolo did in the HTC would make him on Goku and other saiyans level again. It's suck he has to absorb other namekians to get stronger. His power up requires the sacrifice of other namekians. Toriyama should give him Kaioken at least or make him training under Beerus to unlock God ki.

If you really think about it though, he's only not that strong simply because Toriyama hasn't chosen to give him a plot device to make him strong - he was able to match (or come close to) Super Saiyan strength before fusing with Kami.

Toriyama may make the rules, but like a kid on a playground, he certainly changes them when he's written into a corner.
