I wanted to be an arse and name the thread that. This video shows all the differences between male and female Pokemon that were cut.
In most cases, the male design was kept hence the title of the thread. I actually wouldn't have minded more slight differences between the sexes.
I mean when you look at nature, in most cases the males are larger in some regards over females. Heck, you can see that in hoomans too.

I do agree that it would've been nice to see more differences between the different sexes in pokemon, since that's life, but...yeah, for a series of anime and games aimed at a younger generation, I suppose they just felt not focusing on gender was a better option? Granted, that doesn't hold up with Mr. Mime, Nidoran, Jynx, etc...so...who knows, maybe they just didn't want to keep updating all of those sprites game after game given how many they add in with each generation?

That, or...well...men are just bastards...so male forms it is...

Yeah, it is a kid's thing but I would guess it comes more down to not wanting to focus on those differences in editing and creation and accidentally getting them wrong. There are so many different Pokemon at this point that them all having slight differences would just mean way more work for designers.
 
True, that is a hell of a lot of work with each passing generation. So many creatures and so many slight variations it would definitely be a nightmare. Also the thought of a Mr. Mime with boobs...just...no...

They should have just made it be the opposite from the getgo. Like named Jinx Mrs. Mime or at least Mrs. Jinx.

As for it being racist, I think people confused the design because American cartoons depicted black folks in a bad way back in the day. It has more to do with Japanese lore and plays. Her black skin was meant to be darkness, in the literal sense. Matt explains it well.

Oh I know what Jynx was supposed to be, but it definitely was a bit of a marketing mishap to try to integrate her into a series without giving plenty of backstory and not doing a bit more research before designing her. You can't really blame certain cultures from seeing it as a racist character because the same ignorance of Japanese culture exists in those cultures as apparently was present in designing the Jynx character. Then again, maybe they could've just named her something closer to Yama-uba or Yamanba and caused people to...do a bit of research :D.
