I was just thinking to myself that while Boo Saga Gohan has his flaws, he's not without his positives even outside of Mystic Gohan. For example, I actually really like how well written his relationship with Videl is for Dragon Ball, because outside of this pairing, the romance in Dragon Ball sucks.

You're not wrong there, his relationship with Videl is pretty well written in this part. His attempt to unearth his powers again is well written, as well, though I still don't particularly like his Mystic Gohan form. He does have some good parts.

I generally prefer boo saga gohan over the other gohans Characterwise!
Him getting ridicoulous powerboosts by being angry was dumb anyways!
I also generally prefer lighthearted protagonists over angst!

Or being touched on the head by Guru to unlock his full power, only for it to somehow lock back up again and need releasing again to achieve ssj2...and then again for mystic Gohan...

Gohan's Guru Power Up was only a Potential Boost, the Mystic "transformation" was the method that unlocked Gohan's full Potential.

Which reminds me, Krillin is the only Human that received a potential unlock. LOL.
I loved tfs' take on Krillin's boost. That's it? It wasn't very much. So this is my full potential? So then it's... All downhill from here. Poor guy!

There are positives to Gohan in Boo Saga?

I think Mystic Gohan could have been something special, the way he achieved the power, and the story behind it was great, but the execution felt poor.
I notice that some argue the opposite. They like how insanely powerful Mystic Gohan is compared to say, SSJ3 Goku, but they hate the way he gained the power.

Understandable, they just want Goku to burst through the ceiling each time, I liked that it was different from that.

The Videl relationship aspect was really neat, especially when she figured out who he was. Further, when Spopobitch was crushing Videl in the ring we got to see Gohan about to give into his anger, something we don't see often. It was good story telling. Then, when he asked Kibito to give him his dad's outfit as a show of respect was also pretty cool.

I really liked the few instances where he was treated as an actual threat (ie when Kibito asked him to power up), but like the rest of the Buu Saga everything about him just fell into a convoluted mess.
