Monkey Island returns in Return to Monkey Island

The new adventure is being helmed by original Monkey men Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman.

Guess it's time to replay the series from the start! If anyone here hasn't experienced the magic that is Monkey Island, buy Secret of Monkey Island on Steam, then Monkey Island 2, then Curse of Monkey Island, then Escape from Monkey Island, then Tales of Monkey Island, then tell me how awesome you think it is.

There's 5 not counting this one:
Secret of Monkey Island - 1990 (remastered with new artwork in 2009)
Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge - 1991 (remastered with new artwork in 2010)
Curse of Monkey Island - 1997
Escape From Monkey Island - 2000
Tales of Monkey Island - 2009 (this was developed by Telltale and is episodic)

They're all amazing, funny and definitely worth playing. The remasters have a button to go between the remaster and the old DOS version (which you can otherwise get free on abandonware sites); the remasters have voices.

COMI (3) is easily the best and most memorable one. Escape is worth playing, but they tried doing 3D and missed the mark a little. Tales was quite good, and had some loose ends that I'm hoping Return will close. You can get everything on Steam and GOG.

You also don't necessarily have to play them in order, they can all stand alone. There are characters that appear across some and all of them. But each game definitely references the previous one.

This quote from COMI came up in my Facebook memories for today. So I'll subject you all to it. (Guybrush is the main character and Murray is an evil talking skull - specifically the one from the Return teaser)

My first experience with them was definitely the DOS version, so I feel you. When I was a teenager I was gifted some ancient Pentium 90 ThinkPads and downloaded a heap of abandonware to them, and got really hooked on MI (and then bought COMI and Escape).

I do find myself switching between the DOS and Remaster mode because I really have a love for the original character designs (Wally looks adorable in the DOS version).

The funniest thing in the trailer is the skull saying: I heard Ron would only return
Which indicates this is not rons planned Monkey island 3 which wouldve taken place in the Parkl probably!
but actually either monkey island 6 or 3.5 considering i heard 4 isnt that good!
(I watched games 1 to 3 as letsplays!)

Well... it was something. Didn't feel quite as long as the others, but it was still entertaining. I do like that it fits in a way that games 3-5 are still relevant (and referenced).

Definitely worth playing.
