I think his contract after a few movies was like 10% of whatever they were bringing in.
... so they've probably paid him a lot of money up front.
I think the investment in RDJ will secure a baseline of at least breaking even (even with however many trucks rolled up to his mansions). And the Russo brothers directing is also a formula for success.
He'll definitely do well at playing the character, and the movie will be pretty fun. Just whether it's enough to dig them out of the hole in the first place...

Seems like they are going to try the whole "one universe" made up of many different heroes from different universes to bring them back together. People are saying everything is riding on the new X-Men movies though. If those tank, even more people will sour on these.
This also comes as a scramble after Jonathan Majors was fired as Kang, and they had to kill that Avengers movie.
Smart move. They're lucky they've never just had to outright recast an actor in any of their movies so far.
Oh and Harrison Ford as Ross. But since Hurt got too hurt and died, I guess that's understandable.
To be fair hugo fits Red Skull like a glove.
Ross' Red Skull look gives him the gritty look, but if you just painted red on red skull on Hugo, and add the cuts, smudges, you'd see red skull brought to life. Just look at Hugo in that image... he looks like a fucking villain. Probably why they cast him as agent in matrix film universe.
RDJ as Doom is cool and all but its gonna be jarring when seeing commercials and the film itself - because he plays as Iron Man in the MCU.. So how are you gonna explain who DOOM is, when taking off the mask?
