Has anyone ever played the old Dragon ball Z RPG? If so what are your thoughts?

Tabletop. They had books for it. It was made D&D style with books and dice.

I've really wanted to try it since I heard about it, but I don't even know anyone personally that plays D&D to begin with, let alone DBZ TTRPG.

There's a fan one that expands on the idea and re-balances it and is really good. I did start an online one on Discord once, but it very quickly fell apart with the DM abandoning it. This version is actively updated and has mechanics for pretty much all current races and transformations, and balancing so that Saiyans aren't just owning everything.

With the official one, I like that you could either creat a character or play as your favorite cannon character(s) and created all new stories and enemies.
