Between March and April of this year, authorities in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts found 12 sets of human remains, and although investigations are ongoing and no connection between the cases has been confirmed, theories have begun to circulate on social media pointing to the possible existence of a potential serial killer.
Scott Duffey, a former FBI instructor and security expert, expressed concern about the lack of public information, which contributes to unfounded assumptions being formed, The Post reported.

"Not enough is being shared, so the idea of a serial killer keeps growing," Duffey said, who claimed that there is currently no data to connect the cases or indicate a common pattern.

"Personally, I don't think there's anyone out there attacking women in New England along the canals and trails," Duffey added. "But at the same time, you can ignore a serial killer, but don't let your guard down. Anyone looking to take advantage of a vulnerable situation will do so."
