So I just noticed something. Goku and Vegeta when they achieved the super saiyan transformation, they had lost their tails.

Do you think losing their tails, and losing the ape transformation gave them the ability to transform to super saiyan. Maybe it was a way to compensate for the loss of the ape transformation.

I don't think Toriyama ever made that link. He just hated drawing tails.

I must admit one thing that bothered me, is Gohan's tail growing back in the Saiyan saga.

How did that happened, and Goku's nor Vegeta's tail grew back? It defied logic

Goku's tail grew back twice, so I don't think it's egregious. You could make the argument that at a certain age/power level/level of sustained damage it just stops.

I guess I would have to know the time jump between Piccolo pulling it off and the last few hours of fighting with Vegeta.

I also don't recall him having it, during the Nappa fight. It looked like it just reappeared, and it confused me.

Maybe it's just me

I believe the Saiyans arrived after about 1 year. Piccolo literally pulled Gohan's tail off the night Raditz died.

Gohan's tail grew back at the very end of the fight against Vegeta.

In my personal head canon I think that tails are a recessive gene in half saiyans and half humans and that’s why Gohan has a tail but Goten, Trunks, and Bra don’t have tails.
