Makes a lot of sense, but I agree he's still absolutely the result of him dying. Had he cuffed him and gotten off of him or even picked him up, George Floyd would still be alive. I'm glad he's being held accountable, but I'm also glad it's for the right offense. I hate this garbage. It wasn't "the police" who killed a black man, it was one officer who has now been arrested. Likewise, in the other incidents around the country, it was not that entire department acting on one individual, it was one or two officers who likely will also face charges (Phoenix is now experiencing riots because of a similar incident, for example). My mother was a member of the Police service back in Britain, and a great deal of my uncles work in the prison system back there, too. They're good people attempting to do a job, so I've never held anything against "the police," but I also acknowledge there are a fair few bad apples that need to be weeded out before things like this happen. This is people taking advantage of the situation for their own personal gain. People destroying cars and buildings, stealing goods from shops and restaurants and acting stupidly. It's not what the actual protests or protestors are about, and just like one bad officer giving police a bad reputation, a fair few bad people are right there giving the protestors a bad name. Stealing, looting, vandalizing, assaulting...that's not going to help anyone or get a point across, that's just petty theft and destruction and I hope those doing it are caught and charged for it. Also, how many of the businesses that they've destroyed thus far are owned by single families, small business owners, even minority owners just looking to scrape by? Now they've got to pick up the pieces because of a few morons. Nice job!
