It's actually 150 miles in-land and 3 miles out to sea.

To be fair, I will explain why you may be temporarily detained at a Border Patrol checkpoint within the continental United States. It's to examine for U.S. citizenship because within that 150 mile corridor, Congress has granted the authority to DHS to have "border nexus" meaning there hasn't been a significant exchange of goods or people between foreign and domestic.

So while annoying if you come across a checkpoint, a quick, "I'm f*cking American, will probably suffice."

Perhaps and it has been challenged in court, but so far the Supreme court has yet to rule definitively that it violates the 4th Amendment. Same with your's truly being able to search electronic media like your phone or laptop when you try to enter the U.S. from foreign. So far, those kinds of searches have been held up as they relate to border search authority granted by Congress under 19 USC.

I agree, it's why WE THE PEOPLE need to be smarter and more informed voters in who we install in office. Take Mitt Romney, that MF has got to go! He's going to vote with the Dems on gun control to try and curtail our rights.
