Unpopular Opinion: Faulconer's score was incredible

It has its flaws, like the fact that it rarely quiets to let the story breath... but there are SO many unforgettable moments that it enhanced.

The first time my wife watched it with me was the first time I watched the original score. When it came time for Vegeta to go SSJ vs Andoid 19, I was so disappointed. That moment just doesn't shine the same way. Same for Gohan going SSJ2 vs Cell.

Now come on, just watch this
Tell me that didn't make that scene 10x more epic

Correction, you mean Scott Morgan, Julius Dobos, and Mike Smith's score gave those unforgettable moments. Bruce Faulconer just owns the studio and did none of the work himself. He's just the boss who put his own name on his employee's work. Imagine that.

There are some tracks who are good. Gohan's Angers, SSJ Goku, SSJ3 Goku and others. But it's the fact that it always plays techno farts which leads to people disliking the score. The whole thing just boils down to opinions, though, like myself for example prefer some scenes that are in the original soundtrack than the American one and vice versa.

Whoever did it, they added the edge that helped make DBZ incredible. I'm surprised if this actually is an unpopular opinion. The Japanese sound track worked great for the goofy nature of Dragon Ball...but did not fit at all with DBZ.

I've been a part of quite a few Dragon Ball sites over the last 15 years. I'd say about 85% of DBZ fans seem to prefer the Japanese score.

But it's the fact that it always plays techno farts

I never ever heard it that way. I got annoyed at a few songs, namely the Ginyu Force theme that got really repetitive, but not once have I ever said "That sounds like a techno fart, lame". I don't understand where that's coming from. Sounds like it came from people with a prejudice against electronic music, though.

Don't slam ME with that, jeez. A lot of pop artists don't even write their own songs & lyrics, but you don't see people getting bent out of shape when you label it under their name, because that's what it's called.

On the contrary, I heard it being referred like that. I think it mainly stems from the fact that you can a quiet and peaceful music then suddenly a harsh noise playing, so it can come off as jarring to some. It doesn't bother me, personally, but you can see how some people can be annoyed by it.

The Faulconer score is almost never quiet though... it's the most common and understandable criticism about it. So I still don't see it.

I think Bruce Faulconer's music (or at least the musicians working under him) were still better than the garbage musician of Kai. He just ripped off a bunch of soundtracks from other musicians.

That's a myth. I've spoken to Scott, Julius, and Mike on two separate occasions. They've said multiple times that Bruce Faulconer worked on the scores with them, and a few of the tracks he did solo.
