News US Senators Introduce 'Lawful Access to Encrypted Data Act' — With Backdoor Mandate

They always label it as doing good too when you know damn well they will abuse it.
There should be laws that government officials voting on IT related laws, particularly to do with cybersecurity, must be competent in IT and have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in computer science.

I think our government would be more effective if they had job categories for the various aspects of governing: IT, agriculture, business, etc, and there must be people with education/experience in those areas sitting on the voting panel. The folks with education/experience would have the authority to essentially veto anything that goes against common sense and/or would be potentially harmful.

Yeah that the issue with this is that younger folks who know how to use and manipulate these laws will get elected in the future.

Technocracy. Sounds good, but sadly it will never be a thing, because in theory it contradicts the principles of democracy. Here they don't even try, the oldies know they don't know shit about IT so this domain is not that thoroughly regulated yet. Piratery is still a thing! Worst case they will copy whatever US will release lol.

Host and encrypt your own stuff. Businesses may comply with such a law but citizens don't have to.

It's these kinds of things which make me more paranoid, I do not want to be spied on. I protect my drives with LVM encryption so that's all good but mobile devices are the tricky part. Root tools can help but only so much. Waiting on GrapheneOS...

In short, support FOSS and stay away from big tech.
