Why has Master Roshi never learned to fly?

I always wondered this give that Videl even learned how to fly. It seems weird that such an iconic character in the series just wouldn't bother with it.

Is there any reason behind this? I might be overlooking/overthinking something.

Maybe he's afraid of heights?

I've honestly always wondered. I think he could, if he wanted to, though.

Well Roshi always had Nimbus and Turtle, so...he never really needed to. By the time he met Goku he was already quite old, so probably thought it wasn't worth it to learn to fly after giving him nimbus. That's my guess, at least.

Because in the manga, I think, only those trained in the Crane School were taught to fly as it was their secret technique like how the Kamehameha is to Roshi aka Turtle School. That is how Tien is able to fly since he was trained by the crane school.

But Krillin and Goku learn it... Or did they learn that from Tien? I don't remember.

Because he sucks. Like he outright tells Tien he didn't sign up for the 23rd Budokai Tenkaichi because he doesn't think he can keep up with them anymore. I'm fuzzy on the details, if they were every even discussed but I don't think Roshi was all that active pre-Goku. He wasn't really taking on any students or anything, and I think it was years since he won the Martial Arts Tournament. And during the 22nd Tournament, he forfeited the match to Tien and admitted Tien would've won if they continued, so by the time Goku learned flight, Roshi had already accepted that he's been surpassed. There was never any reason for him to learn when so many characters at the point had already surpassed him. Unlike Yamcha who's an idiot and thought he could stand up to the Androids, Roshi knew when it was time to step back from the fight.

It seems he'll be a regular combatant in the manga again if the Tournament of Power and Moro arc are anything to go by, and if so, if he doesn't learn it he's an idiot.

At least Krillin and Tenshinhan had useful moves (Kienzan and Shin Kikoho). All Yamcha knows how to do is lose. He lost the first rounds in all three tournaments he participated in, died from a Saibamen and nearly died against Gero.

I feel like he is just being lazy with it. Like he trained and became strong enough for the ToP... Which granted you didn't need to fly, or rather it wasn't allowed but still.
