Got into a verbal knife fight today with an acquaintance over the government wanting to designate Antifa a domestic terrorist entity. Their whole point they were angrily trying to make was they were going to use this as an excuse to treat certain groups in our country as enemies of the state and start rounding them up like the brown shirts. First off, that’s kind of a stretch but okay. I mean I don’t trust the government wholly either and I work for them but I don’t see us going down the pathway of the Nazis. Then it just sort of devolved into them bringing up the Tulsa race riots and persecuting LGBT folks. I just told them to calm the fuck down and grow up.
These riots are like a disease worse than COVID that fuel all the darkest and most emotionally charged elements of our society. I’m done with this year and so help me if 2021 messes with me....
Some people are so stuck in their mindset, even a rational explanation with facts will be taken as a lie. Look at the flat earth society for an example of this.

Two were suspended pending investigation. I understand you want to clear the streets but if he's not moving then grab him up and detain him.
I mean based on what I have seen in person, you grab the person's arm and walk them away, if they resist, you arrest them. You don't push them to the ground like an angry ape. This is just going to make things even worse. You'd think cops would be mindful of what is going on and control themselves more now than ever.
Agreed. I'm on the side of police more often than not, but this was completely uncalled for and unnecessary. I'm glad the officers involved were suspended and I hope they're reprimanded beyond just a suspension. He's 75, not some 20 year old punk getting in your face, you can move him out of the way with ease and send him on his way!
That was excessive force through and through. Unless he's trying to fight you then you don't need to check an elderly man in the chest. You can control them by the arm and take them into custody if they're resisting orders.
I'm waiting for the news story to come out that he is COVID-19 positive now. Seems like they are piggybacking that on random people as a fear motive and no one is listening.

That happened. They're suggesting that the officers were right to shove an elderly man to the ground? Sorry, but if that's the thought process, goodbye to those 57 officers.

It is no secret that many cops have a complex when they are younger. I dated one. He broke up with me for being "too nice" to his friend and because I didn't have sex with him. I feel like while plenty of these men and women wear the uniform to uphold the law respectfully, there are still too many instances of them wearing it and thinking they are better than everyone else because of it. There is something about a uniform in some careers. I don't get it. I guess it is like driving around an expensive car and looking down on others for driving cars that aren't.
I am a bit drained of the entire situation. There was justice for George at least. Shame what resulted in the process. Some people just suck.

Wow. That's not a cop, that's a tool. I can only hope he either grew the fuck up or is no longer a cop, because thinking like that is dangerous. Not just "oh you're lucky enough to date me, now get naked" sort of thinking, but the thinking that he is somehow better or stands above anyone for any reason. A police officer is what you do, not who you are, and those that forget that need to get themselves out of the profession and do something else.
You're absolutely right, though, there are far too many who get a complex about what they do, or somehow having authority over others, as though that makes you something special. A badge, a gun, a uniform, a degree, a doctorate, a successful business, a fancy car, whatever it is that triggers that part of their ego, those people need to realize that those are things. Things that make them what they are, it will never and can never be who they are.

I didn't even know about this happening. A clinically ill man was killed by cops mishandling him yet this is the first time I am hearing about it. Happened back in 2016. It makes me wonder how many other people have had this happen to them and no one took any notice because the man was white or Hispanic. At least attention is being brought to cases like this now. It clearly doesn't matter what color you are to an asshole cop.
I thought I would share this. The owner of this sports bar was crying in a video, I remember seeing it. The man's business was destroyed because of the riot but people came together and literally out-funded themselves to help this man and his family. Check out their goal for the fund and what was raised.
