California making a strong case to be the next Florida with this one.
Two 13 year-old girls have been arrested in Escondido, California after the driver stole her mother's Ford Explorer and managed to get pulled over for a minor traffic infringement. While the police did not initially suspect anything out of the ordinary (...two 13 year olds in an SUV doesn't look out of the ordinary, apparently...), the driver decided to take off but quickly lost control and collided with a planter fixed to the side of the road. It was then discovered that two homeless men were sleeping in the bushes inside said planter. One died on the scene and the other died at hospital, their IDs have not been confirmed at this point in time. Both 13 year-olds were arrested and released to their parents pending charges.
While clearing the scene later a police car blocking traffic was struck by a drunk driver. The damage was extensive but the officer was out of the vehicle at the time of the collision and so was uninjured. The driver of the colliding car was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence.
...well done, California!
