Dragon Ball Z Chi Chi is just the worst...

I thought I would make this thread since most people tend to agree that she is just the absolute ball crusher of the series.

My first time watching Dragon Ball Z, I wasn't as annoyed by her. I just thought she was a bit much but having watched through it several times and seeing some of the scenes where she just goes full-blown bitChi (see what I did there? lol) mode, I can't stand her. I think it is alright to dislike the woman too because she is written in a way that you can't help it. Plus, her own creator hates her so there is that.

So what is it that you dislike the most about Chi Chi throughout DBZ?

(I won't include Dragon Ball since she was a kid for that most of the time and Super she is just cringy as all heck)

The fact that she makes a complete 180 in character writing. In the 23rd she was literally one of the strongest martial artists in the world, but then she decides not to let Gohan carry on the legacy of his parents.

Gohan actually suffers from the same problem, ironically. Literally the strongest fighter in the world in the Cell Arc, but then decides to settle down completely in the Boo Arc.

I'm willing to give a fair analysis on her character. I'm gathering most all of us find her so annoying is because we're used to her character in the dub. Which is absolutely god awful and like nails on a chalkboard every single time she talks. I don't like how the actress from Funi portrays her, she took from what was initially an overbearing housewife to a C U Next Tuesday. It's too much. In the original Japanese, she is portrayed more appropriately as a sheltered princess who became a house wife to a husband she can barely handle. She loves being a wife and mother, but she wasn't ready for it. There are clues in her speech patterns in Japanese. She speaks with a very distinct kansai dialect where she cuts words off, i.e. she refers to Goku as Goku-sa instead of the proper honorific of -san. This may be a quirk they added to show she's from a certain region, but I lke to attribute it to her more sheltered upbringing.

I only watched Super in Japanese. I watched Dragon Ball and DBZ in dub. I get the impression that her angle was meant to be the controlling wife who wants her children to succeed so much with their education that she is okay with risking their happiness which you see a lot in Asian cultures. You also get the impression that she cares more for Gohan and later Goten than she does Goku.

I believe you're right and she's meant to encompass the role of the stereotypical Asian tiger mom because she wants her children to succeed. You have to remember in their cultures the children are expected to take care of their parents when they're old. It's not like those of us in North America where we're like, "Okay, love you BYE!"

I think she would respect Goku more if he took on a more responsible role as the patriarch of the family, but that's never going to happen because he's a man-child. Bulma doesn't give a damn what Vegeta does because she's rich and him being around isn't a factor.

I feel like Chi Chi being raised by just her father and early experience with fighting made her so strong-headed as well. I don't think she had real female interactions until forming a friendship with Bulma.

She did lose her mother at a very young age. So she never had a female role model or any interaction until she was already an adult. No wonder she was so thirsty for that Goku D. :ROFLMAO:

Oh yeah, she was only like what, 12 when she decided she wanted to marry Goku? LOL

I mean it kind of worked out for her because Goku has no idea how to function in a romantic relationship so she was never pressured with anything. I feel like she had to pressure Goku for sex in order to have her kids. lol

Here's why Chi-Chi is also the worst, I bet she dominated the hell out of Goku in bed because he has absolutely no idea what is going on. Hence why in Super he VERY awkwardly admits to the group he has never kissed anyone. The look Vegeta gave him was priceless.

Make this canon in your mind....

LOL this has to be the reality of the situation. Also, Vegeta looked at him like he was eating lead paint off of a spoon.

One place I will actually give credit to Chi-Chi is that she's a good mother in law. She likes Videl and treats her well. I don't know if that's 100% genuine or if it's because she's filthy rich and she wants in on that cheddar.

Even if it is about the benjamins, it is rare to see a mother in law act how she does. She did get all loopy and control freak with Pan though.

:cautious: Maybe that's why Pan is so screwed up and falls into acting as a damsel in distress most of the time. See? It wasn't GT's shitty writing that turned Pan into a plot device to undo any good that Goku did and act as said damsel for him to rescue. NO! It's grandma's fault!

Chi-Chi is a manipulative, over-bearing house wife that used Goku as a sperm donor so she could have babies. I think the only reason she has any affection for him whatsoever is because she doesn't have normal social skills and can't cope with trying to find a man on her own. Also, because he gave her their sons. Someone settled, hard!
