To be fair, a lot of Japanese artist do this Other examples would be Jojo and One Piece.
It's an interesting little insight in who Launch actually might be and why because we know so little about her.

The spaceship landing spot is a neat fact, but I'd never considered the fact that winking is such a western-oriented gesture. I'm not sure it is these days, given how globalized the world is, but for the time frame, it definitely would have been. A neat tactic to help create cultural separation between two vastly different characters.
Just to piggy back on the east vs west gesture comments. Does anyone know why in Dragon Ball you've seen Goku beckoning someone like this?
Versus how we beckon someone toward us in the west with the palm facing upward. It's because our version is how you beckon animals. The single finger "come here" is used in Japan but it's demeaning and used toward someone you feel is your lesser. It's why 17 did it to Krillin during the Android saga.
Did not know that, but it does make a lot of sense. I did wonder why that was a thing in some cases, had no idea it was for that reason
