The WWE part of this is not really relevant to the discussion, as I realize most of us here aren't exactly wrestling fans, but the sheer tragedy of what's happened prompted me to post this. While out swimming at Venice Beach with his 10-year-old son, Shad Gaspard was caught in a strong current and both he and his son were swept far out into the ocean. Rescuers arrived fairly quickly as his wife watched on from the beach, and while rescuers found Gaspard first, he directed them to his son who was promptly rescued. Tragedy, however, was quick to follow as a large wave caught Gaspard and sent him underwater while rescuers were still tending to his son. This was the last time anyone saw Gaspard, as he did not resurface and has not been seen since. A search has been underway for more than 24 hours at this point with no trace. How awful for his 10 year old son to have to witness that after having already been through a traumatic experience in being swept out to sea. His wife could do nothing but stand by helplessly on the beach and watch as they were both swept away and then her husband driven under by the waves. The chances of finding him have been deemed "bleak," and it seems the effort to recover what is expected to be his dead body seem to have been scaled down as more time has passed. What a tragic thing to happen to a family, irrespective of who it is.
(Side note, but how disgusting some of those comments are on that article...blatantly racist and ignorant, and at a time when a family has just been devastated.)
