I heard a lot of jokes about Aboriginals at school (usually far darker than that... which I didn't really appreciate). I also heard a lot of jokes toward white people.
Heck, there's an Aboriginal family next door and I heard a teenager tell his brother "You're not even black!" which upset his young brother - do I have to report that to the HRC?
Like one of my colleagues jokingly said at work the other day in front of a Canadian (No f*cks given
) "God Bless America and nobody else!"

Gay = Happy
That was the way the word was used for a long time and then it started to be used as a way to describe homosexual dudes. I think it was an insult at first but then became a standard word. Like queer used to be an insult and isn't anymore, apparently. I can't keep up. I am too old for all this. lol

So let me get this clear homosexuals use a word that means happy aswell as arainbow flag?
Cant they invent anything? Like this stuff irked me why is a group with only two types of people using a rainbow flag WHY!
Two things:
-Gay people did not "steal" the word gay. It was originally a french word meaning merry, yes, but like all language, it evolved to mean a variety of different things including, eventually, a brothel (known as a gayhouse), then it was used to describe sex-trafficked young boys who were forced to work for older men (gaycakes), and because those older men usually took advantage of them sexually, the term became associated with homosexual relationships and eventually was shortened to gay. It was an unflattering term to be applied to homosexual people, as it implied sexual employment. So, no, gay people didn't take it, it wasn't appropriated by gays, there wasn't a vote where all gay people got together and said "hey, what's a word only straight people use that we can steal?" It was initially forced on gay people as a derogatory word, much like how faggot used to mean a pile of sticks, and now is a slur against gay people, but eventually it became the commonplace name for a homosexual person.
-The rainbow flag was created by Vietnam war veteran and drag performer Gilbert Baker to replace the pink triangle, a symbol the Nazi's used to identify and persecute anyone that was gay. The symbol carried on into the 1970s and was still commonly seen as a negative mark, not something to celebrate. Famous politician Harvey Milk commissioned Baker to create a symbol, something all gay people could show and wear with pride. The original Pride Flag consisted of eight colours, all with different meanings, and all gathered to symbolize unity and inclusion for those who are so frequently marginalized, abused, ostracized or otherwise outcast just for being gay. Pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for art, indigo for harmony and violet for spirit. It was then produced by the Paramount Flag Company after it's initial debut, though blue replaced pink and indigo was removed to form the standard pride flag we know today, although the newest variant includes a chevron of white, pink, powder blue, brown and black, dubbed the Progress Pride Flag. The black and brown symbolize LGBTQ+ people of colour as well as those living with and lost to HIV/AIDS, while the white, pink and powder blue represent the trans community. So no, the pride flag, in either variant, does not only represent two types of people, and a rainbow itself does not automatically mean gay. The colours are specific, with specific meanings, and they are symbols for an entire community of people.

Okay i guess i was too harsh still using six colors of the rainbow for this reason is pretty confusing!
Why? Nations have flags, companies have flags, cities and states have flags, political parties have flags. What makes it so different that the pride flags are suddenly so offensive and confusing?
I mean im also not too hot one most other types of flags! When it comes to pride flags in particular it just a lot of people who use them can get really grating so maybe that colours my perception of the lags in general!
Symbols can be whatever people want them to be and mean whatever. The rainbow will always be a promise from God to never flood the earth again for me, as a Christian.
I take issue with all alphabet groups at this point, I don't care if it is the FBI or the LGBT+. All of them have bad people doing bad things and the people who aren't bad either ignore, defend it, it or go along with it because they don't want to be excluded/hated. I have stated that there is a cult-like mentality with the LGBT+ and while I don't have any issues with individuals just trying to live their lives and be happy (legally and consensualy of course), there are far too many issues happening with the group right now that I think all lesbian, gay, bi, and trans people really need to consider. A lot of whack jobs, perverts, and even straight people are using it as a shield to do some manipulative and horrible things. I take no issues with individuals but collective groups historically get used, abused, and manipulated. I will leave it at that.
I moved the posts to the political thread because I want to keep the general community thread passive, friendly, and free from debates and political issues. It was my fault for starting it. I just thought the name of an ice cream bar was funny. lol
