Imagine this being supervised by adult casting and projected for adult movies. I'm angry beyond limits. How could no one complain about this while it's been filmed???
I know the French get into some weird things, but even they are above this. How it got past review boards and even got awards is just staggering. Those poor kids are not only going to be gawked at for the rest of their lives for sexualizing themselves in this film, they're possibly in actual danger if some pedo gets it into his or her head that these kids are indeed sexy and that person is just paranoid enough to go after them. Sounds far-fetched, I know, but we've seen this happen before (Jody Foster, anyone?).
France is still part of EU and we still have ONU. We are not wildlings and they should cancel that immediately. I only watched that because I know what it's like being sexualized at 11 and it seemed just as sad.
Sadly, given how pathetic some men are, I feel most young girls and women are aware of what it's like to be sexualized at that age, and it makes me sad the older I get to think about.
What gets me though is that people in the US are using it being a foreign film and an excuse for what happens in the film.
Even by "foreign film" standards, this is next level disgusting.
Oh I know, most people hate it and want nothing to do with it but the people who actually are viewing this film as a good thing are making no sense with these statements. Some foreign films are known for breaking new grounds and pushing the envelope but NEVER have they done this with sexualizing children. Like I get that the message was that children who come from overly religious families tend to fall victim to peer pressure and acting out, they were showcasing this as a bad thing but because of the nature of the film, they should have cast older women to play the roles of younger girls or just wrote it as a book. Having actual 11 to 14-year-old girls dressing like this and acting like this for the sake of telling a story is damaging to them. Precious is a good example of a movie about a 16-year-old who was physically and mentally abused by her mother. The woman who played the girl in the role was 26. No one complained.
I completely agree that they should have used older women, it doesn't make the concept of the film any better, but at least it gets those legitimately young girls out of harms way. Horrible idea to let this happen and put it out there.
Precious. Man that film was all sorts of crazy. I know there are people stuck in situations like that, but holy hell did it push the envelope a lot. Gabourey Sidibe did one hell of a job in that one!
