I think it'll probably end up fine. Nothing great, nothing memorable, but probably a cozy family friendly adventure. Probably be the best Mario movie, not that there's much competition.

It'd be hilarious if he was, but yeah, long established that Luigi's a fair bit taller and rail thin while Mario's a chonk.
