Fan Game - Goku's Tale (2024 September - v1.0)

Hello, quick question. At the start of the game, when Bulma throws the DynoCap to create a camp-house the screen goes white and the game freezes. I played the game in an older version and that never happened. Is it a bug?
Sounds like it. Are you using v0.6.1?

When that happens, the game is loading a second version of the map in the background and continuing the event. Sounds like it's not actually finishing the second half.

These things can happen as I update the corescript and plugins. As other stuff has been working as I've been playtesting, these naturally weren't encountered initially.

Thanks, that was fast. Anyways you are doing a GREAT job with this game. Can't wait for v1.0
Thanks, and no worries. I have no idea how many people actually play, and I'd rather not alienate any by producing a broken product that I don't support. :krillinpalm:

Enjoy the rest of it! Do let me know of any other issues or concerns you have. :thumbsupgif:

Training simulator now actually updates with bosses from across the game, as the game passes these milestones.

It's been a long time since I've been on this thread, and I came in just to impart a couple of words before I vanish back to my boring day job and college again.

First: I'm SO glad you are continuing with game design for both this, and your new original game(is it weird that I'm super hype for the new original game over a telling of Z?)!!!

Second: I'm replaying it since, I believe, the 21st WMAT was first finished. So quite a while ago now. And I just wanted to let you know that the updates I've seen to just the beginning are awesome! Maybe it's just because I haven't replayed it in a hot minute, but it feels so fresh! I especially love the new content in the way of the Horse Quest that you can do before getting Launch (or maybe you can do it after getting her to? I'm writing this comment as I replay the game, so please correct me if I'm wrong). It makes that area have so much more to do.

As for this part of my comment, I've finished through all of the Pilaf Saga, and it feels smoother. I will say that the QOL change you've made to allow the person where Baba can be found to sell her quest items feels a bit cheap in terms of grinding for it, but also allows for faster gameplay. You made a tough call allowing that, and for those who want to just quickly complete the quest. It also provides a quick out if the RNG Gods aren't doing you a favor in spawning the necessary enemies, or just giving them the drops. Maybe it's just a personal thing, but I love that you gave a quick way to solve the quest without requiring someone to sink tons of time into waiting for the drops. It's a VAST improvement over how that quest originally played out.

Third: The sprites look different and much improved in comparison to how I've seen them in the past. I've kept up with this thread and never had the time to comment on this, so I just wanted to say your efforts have not gone unnoticed! They're awesome! A comment about Bulma's sprite, I have a file of it that looks a bit more accurate to her portrait/rendition in the Pilaf Saga, if you'd like me to send it your way.

Fourth: Back to the 21st WMAT Retelling you've done, I like that the maps are now so much more explorable. You've given a lot to do in the way of collecting items, because before it didn't feel as worth exploring as it does now. I can't tell you how long I spend on each unlocked map just exploring to get everything before I either progress the quests/story or travel further. So well done!

(Just a side-bar question: Is Monster Carrot, perhaps, in another location? I know he wasn't as of the 21st WMAT Release, but what about now? I'm excited to look out for him, even if he isn't anywhere else.)

I'm not sure if this is intentional or not, but if you climb up the rope to head toward the area where the Horse can be found, you can get down without walking around to get to Launch. It doesn't break the game at all as you can't even interact with her, but you can get right behind her, and just wanted to bring it to your attention. I don't think it was mentioned at all.

As I have work tomorrow and some assignments due, I can't give a fully detailed analysis or continue complimenting this awesome game until I get a bit further. But I just wanted to let you know that your efforts are NOT unnoticed! I'm enjoying going through this rendition, and excited to see what else it has to offer. I'll be sporadically commenting from henceforth just with updates, what else I see (potential bugs or otherwise) and just to sing praise to the game. Thank you for developing this! It's awesome to go through!

Edit: Just a quick edit, and a bug(?) I found it because I was just exploring to explore. When you get to training island, if you explore the forest before talking to Roshi, he just disappears nowhere to be found. Just wanted to raise this to everyone else's attention. Though it should be noted I also went up the mountain prior to talking to Roshi as well.

Well thanks for investing the time to be here then! :)

I'm honestly not sure how far I'll get with either, given how crazy my life is becoming, but I hope to get something out sometime. And it's not weird at all. We have LOG, we have Kakarot. We have a million Z games. We don't really have anything original.

Horse quest should be available through to the end of King Piccolo (unless I've broken something). Definitely thought it'd be nice to add something to do.

In all honesty... I think I added that there for testing and then completely forgot about it. I might just leave it.

Thank you very much! And yes, please. If you have a 4 directional walking sprite that looks a lot better, I would gladly have it!

Thanks heaps! I try to make them reasonably open while sort of interesting so it's not just vast emptiness.

He's always been in Fungus Town, which is just near Pilaf's Castle. His lair is to the top left of the town. Even from the first release, he's always been there as an optional boss. I left it out of the story because it never seemed like it was necessary, even in the manga.

Far from intentional, and I just tested and couldn't make it happen. Can you send me a video?

For what it's worth, I think I can find where you may have done it, and I've just blocked that off.

Thanks heaps. Notes, bugs and suggestions are more than welcome, especially as I continue working on 1.0.

Hm... neither of those should be happening. Did you interact with anything in either the jungle or mountain?

As an extra note, I'm as far as Goku beating General Blue and heading to the Land of Korin. Should be nearing the end of the RR Saga very soon.

Regardless of where I'm up to in development, notes, bug reports and suggestions are always welcome. :thumbsupgif:

Of course!

Well, I hope whatever is going on works itself out. You deserve some peace! But yeah, you're right we have a million retellings of Z.

Hey man, happy accidents are still happy moments.

I would not say looks better, but the outfit at least looks a bit more on point. I haven't updated this sprite in awhile (mostly because I forgot until I had mentioned it) so it's really just missing the more proper hair and bowtie. It also is more toward the anime colorings. I've attached the file to this message, and up to you if you want to use it or not!

On my next run through the game (almost done this run, and gonna start a new one when I do) I'll send it! Mostly because I don't create new save files for each point and save over my former files.

Yeah, I know about that one. But after you beat him, he says "THIS town" which gave the implication that he shows up elsewhere. Unless I read too far into it. (You're right about it feeling unnecessary though.)

I did open up some chests, but otherwise no other interactions were made.

Kind of forgot I left Officer Black as Killa. The update isn't perfect but... it'll do.

Thanks. I might keep it in mind (crediting you, of course) down the track. She does look a bit too pale though. :shock3:

Thanks. Yeah, if you encounter anything weird, definitely note what happened and try to get a video of it. I think RPG Maker supports up to like 20 saves and will default to loading the most recent one. So don't feel like you need to be stingy on it.

Ahhhh! Yes. I did plan for Boss Rabbit to appear elsewhere...

That plan has not yet come to fruition. I haven't actually given it too much thought. I'll keep you posted if I make a part 2 to that.

Just finished the Red Ribbon Army Saga (including Fortuneteller Baba's Palace). A few improvements, bug fixes and general oversights (somehow I screwed up Roshi's dialogue to talk about Gohan before he revealed himelf).

Onto the Tournament. Not expecting it to take a super long time. Depending on life and how things go, could very well be ready for v1.0 release in the next two or three months. Very likely before the end of the year at this rate.

Just discovered that I accidentally left in the prompt at the end of WMT22 saying that v0.4 ends there. That's been there needlessly for almost a year. :piccolopalm:

As this may also suggest, I've also gotten to the end of testing 1.0 with WMT22. Not long to go!

I've just about gotten to the end of the Piccolo Saga. I've made a few QOL changes, and fixed some bugs and issues (some of which I'm overly surprised I missed).

I've just discovered a new audio engine that will (hopefully) allow me better control over how the music fades and interacts. I'll have a play around with it. That will delay things for a little bit, but will hopefully make the audio sound just a bit better.

Initial playtesting complete! I now want to go back and see if I can do anything with this new audio engine (it wouldn't let me continue on from my saves with it enabled, so will have to start from the start anyway).

I need to re-check the Piccolo fights, and I think I'll need to do a playtest with the deploy exe but... it's almost there!

Okay, new audio engine is pretty cool. Basically it allows me to have multiple channels for audio, meaning I can have multiple BGMs going at once, which will make the fading more pleasant (and will correct the bugs where sometimes the audio will disappear altogether if quickly jumping between screens).

It also has a cool spatial BGS/BGM feature where it can change the volume as you approach/leave an event. I think I'll be able to make use of this for some things. I was hoping I might be able to use it for map BGM, but because all of my maps are separate, I don't think it's designed to work that way - still, this is a huge game changer regardless.

This will, of course, set me back a few weeks while I replace everything with the new engine. But really worthwhile.

Perfection is worth the wait especially for passion projects.
