Chi Chi reminds me of Russian women. You make their heart melt if they're in love with you, but once you get married, they end up being catty and bitchy as hell.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Coming from a Slavic background myself, I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that those women while beautiful are nuttier than squirrel shit. Chi-Chi definitely has emotional problems and I refuse to believe the wholesome depiction that she's given especially in the english dub. In Japanese she's even more bossy to her entire family, her father included.
Don't forget the times where the Earth is at a potential end and she still persists that Gohan study instead of training to save the world.
I always wanted Goku or Gohan to shut her up throughout the entire course of Dragon Ball. It's humiliating that Goku hasn't even attempted to confront her and stop her vitriol.

Anyways I'm glad nobody here condones her behavior. I've seen lots of people defending her, saying that she wants her children to have a bright future and had to raise them mostly by herself and yada-yada. But that doesn't mean she isn't being toxic herself. A parent should guide the child into making good decisions, not fucking FORCE them. Imagine if this was happening to anyone in real life. Your mother doesn't let you do any fun activity and is forcing you to study to become a doctor since you are only 4 years old. Goodbye childhood. Goodbye choosing your own path in life. Hello mental issues.
I think she was written like this either because Toriyama has poorly views on women, or maybe he is just caricaturing the Asian helicopter mom stereotype. Maybe his own mom was abusive like this.
