Favorite Dragon Ball Saga

I don't think we will ever get a straight answer. I know Gohan was intended to take over but Goku was too popular as the main character to let it happen.
That and everyone loved Vegeta so Gohan got pushed to the side.
I disagree. Gohan was the most popular character in the Manga during his fight with Cell. Toriyama just pushed him back into the schoolboy role he once had, and his popularity plummeted. I liked Mystic Gohan, but he also failed to live up to SSJ2 Gohan's charisma during the Cell Games.
I meant for merchandising. I should have specified. Goku was a money maker.
Gohan was my favorite in the Cell Games and I honestly couldn't wait to see what he did next and then, well, you know... lol
That might be why Toei Animation made Goku the star in so many of their movies... LOL.
What happened to Gohan is a shame and a crime. I can't fathom letting so much potential go to waste but they did.
There really wasn't any implication that he would be a schoolboy like Chi Chi wanted him to be after the Cell Games, much less give up fighting. I hate to say it, but he was a more serious warrior during Freeza and Cell than he was in Boo.
I wouldn't hate to say that, it's very true. I honestly wish they didn't skip ahead so many years. They should have shown teen Gohan growing up a bit and getting stronger. That could have been his time to shine. Opportunity wasted.
What happened over the course of all those years? He got complacent. Complacency can and will get you killed. As was almost the case when he had to fight Dabura and even closer to the fact when he tried to fight Majin Buu before training with Old Kai.
Indeed. But what I was alluding to is that Akira shouldn't have written it that way. They had too amazing of a character to let go to waste like that. They should have had him carry on his father's legacy properly. In fact, that was always Goku's intention. Even during the Buu saga, he wants his children to have a chance to beat Buu instead of relying on him.
My favorite is the Buu saga it has a variety of different emotions like when the z fighters got told by goku that buu killed gohan and vegeta were dead everyone was devastated and also when goku was about to kill kid buu he had a slight sign of hope that he even might become reincarnated as a good guy.

I have gone back and forth over the years but I ultimately come back to androids with the Cell Games Saga being my favorite.
I feel like it showed amazing growth in all the characters, especially Gohan. In that saga (as well as the ones leading to it), he was actually my favorite character. The fact that for that period in time he surpassed the strength of not only Vegeta but his own father was amazing. It is somewhat of a shame what happened to him after that (I think they didn't do his character justice) but I understand it goes with the path he went down. Second to this one is a tie between the "Future" Trunks Saga and the Piccolo Jr. Saga.
Hard pick between the Frieza Saga and the Cell Saga.
I will have to go with Frieza, just because that saga introduced so many new things into the series whereas the Cell saga was kind of mirroring and expanding on what the Frieza saga brought to the table i.e. Super Saiyan Transformation, Villian Transformations, etc. What makes the choice so hard for me is the idea of Cell introducing the Cell Games and bringing the old school Dragon Ball element to the table. Also, he wasn't a complete nut job like Frieza, he was organized and still a BA.

I have sentimental/nostalgic reasons for picking the Saiyan Saga/Vegeta Saga as my favorite.
I have to pretty much write a biography to explain though.
Growing up between ages 9-12, I had a friend a year younger than me that was keeping up with DBZ as it was unfolding in the USA and airing on Toonami. I wasn't that interested at the time, but I occasionally talked to him about what was going on at the time of the show while we played with his DBZ figurines. Talking about who was the strongest at any given time. I remember being confused, because every time I'd talk to him he'd say someone else was the strongest

When I was 16, we finally got cable TV and they ran a re-run of the Ocean dub on Toonami again during my summer break. I remember watching something else and seeing an ad saying something like "Tune in at so&so time on such day to catch Dragon Ball Z re-aired for the first time since blahblah starting soon". I don't remember what it actually said, I just knew it was my chance to actually watch it start to finish. It aired at 10:30 PM every Thursday I think.
So I watched the entire Saiyan Saga that way. I got hooked and obsessed. I even remember arguing with my dad a few times in attempts to not miss an episode. He wanted me to go do this or that and I'm like, no, I wanna be free Thursday for DBZ!
Something about watching the Saiyan Saga one episode per week REALLY has you on the edge of your seat. It was exhilarating.
I remember we had a "middle-room" in our trailer, where my brother & I kept our stereo, guitars, TV, games etc. Basically, we had a bedroom, then we had an activity room. That was the year that my brother moved out, so I had that room all to myself for the first time. I remember creating this sort of comfortable cradle of pillows & blankets on the floor before watching every episode. I'd turn the lights out and it was just me and DBZ.
But once it reached the Frieza saga, the whole space travel thing seemed ridiculous to me. In a close-minded fit, I stopped watching after the episode where they ran into the space ship full of kids.
It wasn't until a couple years later that I discovered the now-defunct DBZ.TV website streaming every episode and every movie, including GT. I watched all of it. I re-watched the Saiyan Saga, all the rest of Z, all of GT, and every movie at the time. It felt like an accomplishment.
Since then, I've probably watched every saga at least 6 times over.
But I think the experience of watching the Saiyan Saga on TV weekly in anticipation offered an experience much different than binging the series all at once. I just remember it differently. Now when I watch anything from that saga, I still remember what it was like to be 16 year old me, on the edge of my seat, in my comfy spot, with the lights off in that room... watching Nappa beat the piss out of everyone.

Mines would be the buy saga I felt like it showed all the emotions that I wanted to see I liked how it kinda was the first scene we saw vegeta actually sacrifice himself for everyone something we would never think he would do
