Kitsune taught Shihori what she could in the sword, but it's not her area of expertise. She was only able to relate what she had directly learned from her late husband Yu and what he had written down in the form of training notes. Shihori's style is largely self taught aside from the basics. She's truly her own master of the sword.
As it should be. Shihori seems like she needs to be the gung-ho all-in warrior type, where Kuroba is more logical. Good balance.
You're right on the money with their differing personalities. Shihori is quite intelligent, but rides high on emotion and self-reliance. Kuroba is much more analytical and likes to have a plan before he makes a move.
Makes a lot of sense, you just need that balance of personalities and she's so out there, go-for-it levels of badass, he has to be more of a counter to that, so super analytical makes sense.
