There are actually very strict rules in place in AZ for camping, smoking and where you park your vehicles in desert areas, and fines and prison time are a part of the punitive measures taken. Whether that's the case in other states, I'm not sure, but here people can face some very heavy punishments if they're found to be to blame.

That is good but I guess it would cost a lot to monitor the desert. Maybe drones should be considered. It will be costly but it would help actually watch over the areas more effectively.

Very true, it would be nice to have some sort of cost-effective monitoring system in place, as whatever is there right now just does not seem to be effective.

Following up, the Central fire has grown to an intimidating 3,900+ acres with still 0% containment. Meanwhile, the Bush fire continues to burn at an astonishing 180,000 acres burned and 42% contained. Residents of Tonto Basin have been allowed to return as the fire has moved away from the area, mostly. Good news, most definitely, though I hope they're being cautious as the smoke and cinders must still be thick in the air there.

Central Fire sparks Saturday near New River, 3,900+ acres with 0% containment

A new brush fire sparked Saturday morning near New River and has burned up to 1,800 acres with 0% containment as of Sunday.

The Central Fire continues to grow, now totaling 4,517 acres and is at 0% contained. Keeping in mind this was first reported as a 100 acre fire on Saturday morning, that's some insane growth.

The Magnum Fire now stands at 69,277 acres with 28% contained, continuing it's growth while fire crews make slight progress on containment.

The Brigham fire has continued its' slow but steady growth as it now sits at 19,901 acres with 20% containment, this one has officially been declared as a natural / lightning caused fire.

The Bighorn fire has grown to 58,553 acres burned with 33% contained, slowing in growth, but still growing just the same.

Finally, the Bush fire has grown to a colossal 186,848 acres though fortunately is now at 61% contained. It just keeps on growing, but the fire crews are doing their damndest to get it out ASAP.

These aren't even all of the fires currently burning in AZ, but they add up to a total of 339,096 acres burning right now. A startling fact posted by the AZ forestry division today is that 2020 has seen more than 3x the amount of acreage burned than was seen in 2019 to date. THREE TIMES the acreage. Screw you, 2020.
